Gender of Nouns

The Spanish language has both masculine and feminine nouns. Generally, nouns that refer to males are masculine and nouns that refer to females are feminine.

Masculine Nouns

Nouns that end in the following terminations are all masculine: o, s, n, l, ma, grama and r.

Feminine Nouns

Nouns that end in the following terminations are all feminine: a, ión, z, tud, umbre, ie, dad and tad.

Changes

Some nouns change their meaning depending on which gender is used.
